Stage Group

The Good Shepherd Stage Group is a small amateur dramatics group based in the Church Hall of the Good Shepherd Church. We range between 15-30 members from the local community rehearsing once a week on a Wednesday between 7.30pm –10.00pm (depending on how much the producer is panicking at the time!) We perform 2 shows a year, one in the spring and the other in December, which is usually a pantomime.

For more information on the Stage Group and to keep up to date with what we are doing, please follow us on Facebook (www.facebook.com/GoodShepherdStageGroup), twitter (@GSStageGroup) or even email us at: stage.grp@googlemail.com

A Brief History

The Stage Group really has its roots back in the 1960s. At that time the Church had a thriving choir who decided to form a Concert Party primarily to provide entertainment at Shrove and Harvest suppers and that is how things continued for many years. The ambitions of the members increased and with the talent that existed it was felt that the Concert Party Group was capable of more ambitious things.

In 1973 the Concert Party formally became the current Stage Group with Officers and Committee Members elected accordingly. The Group has under the guidance of 6 Chair Persons and numerous Producers and various committees continued to meet new challenges. One thing that has not changed has been the values of the Group in trying to provide genuine ‘family entertainment’ with the intention of passing on the fun that we have to our audiences.

Since making our first donation the Group has donated in the region of £35,000 to local charities from the proceeds of many of our productions. Among the charities to benefit from the Group’s entertainment and the generosity of our audiences are - Macmillan Nurses, LOROS, Motor Neurone Disease Society, Multiple Sclerosis Society, Shelthorpe House, Glebe House, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance, Wishes for Kids and Charnwood Taking News to mention just a few.
